Jay’s Sandbox

Jay’s Sandbox is where I park experiments and half-finished ideas—usually maps, small tools, or visualizations that help me think through wind, land, and data. Nothing here is tied to a specific real-world project or employer. It’s all demos, dummy data, and explorations I’m comfortable sharing publicly.

Explore 40 Years of U.S. Wind Turbine Growth

This map shows every wind turbine in the United States and how the fleet has changed over time. Drag the year slider to watch turbines appear across the country as the wind industry grows. Each turbine is colored by its total height, so you can also see how turbine designs have evolved—starting with smaller machines in the 1980s and moving toward the taller, modern turbines built today.

It’s an easy way to explore when wind energy arrived in different regions, how the technology has scaled up, and where the largest projects have been built.
